Perennial Garden Planning & Design
As a small space designer I work in areas ranging 100-500 square feet, utilizing plant material to enhance your property. I can incorporate any plants you want to keep or come up with something new, including converting lawn space into a new garden bed. My service focuses on the existing structure of your landscape so any hardscaping issues, grading, or tree removal should be completed before my work begins. This service includes site visits, a plant list with cultural information, image links to plant varieties, maintenance guidelines and a basic design on graph paper if needed. Price varies from $225-$349 based on garden size and the need for a drawn design. Smaller spaces can be 'designed on sight' from initial project planning.
Installation If installation is desired an estimate will be provided. Project costs typically range from $10-$15 per square foot or $1500-$6500 for the total project which is dependent on garden size, site conditions and specific varieties of plants and other materials utilized. This service has a $1200 project minimum.
DIY clients may choose to do all or part of the installation. Many will prep the area and mulch, while I provide the design, plants, and assist in planting including laying out the design so the plants are spaced properly. Estimate $7-$10 per square foot. If you choose to do the entire installation yourself you can still purchase plants through me and have them delivered. The benefit of this service is not needing to search at multiple garden centers and if a substitution is necessary I can choose one for you. Advice on installation and after care will also be provided.

Consulting & Coaching
If all you need is an expert on site to answer questions and talk through your ideas, consulting is a great choice. We will verbally discuss your gardening questions and any follow up will be conducted through email. Service price is $99/hr minimum 1 hour.
Coaching allows us to work together executing the maintenance task on your property. You will receive hands-on training in seasonal maintenance tasks and learn any specific care needs of perennials & shrubs on your property. It is recommended that the homeowner takes notes, either written or a video for future reference. For an additional fee I can make a spreadsheet of the plants on your property that includes cultural information and image links as well as a written maintenance plan. Service price is $99/hr minimum 1 hour. PresentationsI love talking about plants and garden maintenance and periodically host in person and online presentations on various gardening topics. If you are part of a group that is looking for a speaker I would be happy to attend your event. Please contact Lindsay Kasten at [email protected]

Is it ok to plant a garden in summer?
The answer is yes. Plants that are growing in containers can be planted any time from May through early October. However, if a plant in an established garden needs to be moved, or transplanted, it is best to do this in spring or fall.
Fall Planting
Fall is a great time to plant a new garden. This is because the cooler temperatures and shorter days shift the plant's growth from the above ground stems into the roots. A growing root system will anchor the plant into the ground which helps new plants survive the winter. Even though garden centers are running low on plant selections I purchase directly from the grower and have access to more varieties all season long. If a plant isn’t available a substitution can be made or we can plan to add it in spring.
Irrigation
Adequate water is crucial to establishing a new garden. Installations include a temporary irrigation system with a programmable timer that does the work for you. The system will remain in place until the plants start to die back naturally in fall and adjustments will be made when necessary.
