​Hole digging and planting 101

Here are the best practices of planting 
  • clear away mulch from a space 2-3x the size of the pot
  • add a scoop of compost to the center of the cleared area
  • dig out a shovel full of earth and turn upside down into the hole
  • use your shovel to shop up the earth and incorporate the compost
  • remove enough loosened soil to place the new plant
  • pull apart the roots so the grow into the surrounding soil
  • planting depth should be the same as the depth of the potted plant
  • fill remaining loose soil around new plant & gently firm soil
  • spread the mulch back around the new plant
